Every blog that is written is created to answer some questions that the readers might have. The readers search for a specific keyword. This keyword will help us in writing a perfect blog that can solve their questions.
Let me first explain,
What are the keywords and their types that you can use for your blog?
A keyword is a word or a group of words that the reader or user might be searching for. It is also one of the parameters that the Search engine considers while deciding the website’s rank.
There are mainly nine types of Keywords. Let us understand this before we proceed on how to search them.
· Short-tail Keyword
The maximum size of a Short tail Keyword is three words.
It is the most often type of keyword searched on Google. It has a massive search volume.
It is not easy to compete for this keyword if you are just a starter. You can use the keyword in your content but would not get a higher ranking unless your content is super and authoritative.
For example, keyword research.
· Long-tail Keyword
These are longer when compared with the Short-tail Keyword. It is more than three words.
Long-tail Keyword, however, doesn’t generate enormous volume but offers lesser competition.

· Short-term Fresh Keyword
This type of keyword is something that is suddenly hyped a lot about in the market.
It gives enormous search volume for a short period. But it provides less competition. However, this keyword’s life is short, so don’t reply to your article on this keyword alone.
For example, Indian idol. It is a popular musical show on the Indian channel. You will get a higher search volume till the time show airs. And sometime later, you may have fewer readers.
· Long-term Evergreen Keyword
This type of Keyword is relevant at any given time.
It has consistent search volume and a moderate type of competition. It is a wise decision to use this type of keyword to increase the scope of readers.
For example, Search Engine Marketing.
· Product defining Keyword
This type of keyword will help in describing the product.
It generates low search volume and competition. But the conversion rates are higher as the customer is specifically looking for a product.
For example, Grammarly, a Grammar checking tool.
· Customer defining Keyword
This type of keyword is used for a specific target audience.
It has lower search volumes, and so does the competition. But conversion rates are higher as it targets a particular set of audience.
For example, a bike for men under 45.
· GEO- targeting Keyword
This type of keyword is specifically used to target readers from a particular location.
It will have low search volumes and competition. But it is beneficial for local business.
For example, a Digital Marketing agency in Pune.
· Latent Semantic Indexing Keyword
This type of keyword is derived from a short-tail keyword. It will help you to create sub-topics for your content.
It offers lower search volume and competition. It helps in creating better content ad allows you to improve Google ranking.
For example, if the main keyword is Digital marketing. LSI keyword can be Digital marketing vs Traditional marketing, Digital marketing tools, and so on.
· Intent targeting Keyword
This type of keyword is to cater to a particular question. It is used to highlight the benefit of a product or item or service.
The intent of the user can be informational, commercial, or transactional.
The search volume and competition are moderate.

Best Keyword Research Tools for your blog
Several Keyword Research tools are available to help you find the perfect set of keywords used to construct the article.
Many of the Keyword Research tools available are free to use, while some offer a trial version(after which they are paid services).
As a starter, you may plan to start with free services, and as your business expands, you may buy any of the paid subscriptions as well to avail of their premium services.
The first on the list is none other than the Search engine itself.
Whenever you need any information, you go to Google and type your question there. You must have observed Google tries to autocomplete the query for you.
Say, for instance, you start typing watches, you get suggestions like watches for men, watches for women, and so on.
These are the searches Google has collected from its users. So it gives you the keywords that readers are searching for.
You can select any one keyword from these and start working on your article.
You must also have observed when you select any one of them, it will take you to the Search results window. You will be able to find some more search results at the end of the screen. These are related to the particular keyword that users have been searching for.
You can incorporate them as well while creating your blog/article.
Google will try to make suggestions for Long-tail keywords or Product-defining keywords.
However, through this type of search, you will not find out the search volume of a particular keyword to judge its competition level.
It is the simplest way of doing keyword research. You don’t need to log-in or pay any fee for getting relevant keywords for your article.
It is a tool designed by Google. It is used to find the keyword and their respective search volume. It also helps us understand the Cost that we might have to pay per click when posting a Google Ad using that keyword.
Suppose we search for the keyword content writing; it will give us all the different keywords related to it and CPC(Cost per click) and search volume.
It will show you the level of competition you will have to face for that particular keyword when posting an ad for it.
You can select the location of your target audience to generate better ideas that would interest your readers.
You will get various options of other keywords that you may choose from to broaden your search criteria.
Here you can also a group of keyword ideas with their relevant search volume with a simple click.
Moreover, you only need to have a Gmail account to access this Keyword planner.
There are no fees for doing keyword research.
Google trends is another tool available from Google. It is used to compare keywords that you might have obtained from the Google Search engine.
It will help you to get an estimated search volume for a particular keyword.
You can make the comparison based on
- Geographical location
- Time(in hours to days to months to years)
- Category type
- Type of Search
Say, for example, your readers are located in India, you will set the country to India. If you want to see data for the past seven days, it can be assigned to the time drop-down menu. You can view only data from 2004 to the current day.
Also, you can select the category type as Arts & Entertainment, News, and so on. You can either select Search type as Google Search, Youtube search, Image search, and so on.

4. Uber Suggest
Uber Suggest is a tool developed by the most famous Digital marketer Neil Patel. You might have read about him.
This tool is a popular tool used by several Digital marketers for keyword research and SEO work. It also provides a Chrome extension.
You would need to sign up with a Gmail account to give them access to your website Search console data to make suggestions for improvement.
It offers a free plan as well as paid plan. In the free program, you are allowed a maximum of 3 Free keyword search data. There are certain restrictions, but a good option for beginners.
This tool will help you with keyword search volume. At the same time, you can get ideas of keywords close to your keyword that you have searched for. Also, you get some content ideas, to begin with, your blog/article writing.
It gives a brief of the keyword that we search for. It provides a rough estimate of the search volume. This data is classified according to the type of device used for the search and age of readers.
Keyword Ideas for your blog
It gives details of related long-tail keywords. It also offers an estimate for Cost per click(CPC), SEO Difficulty level(SD), Paid Difficulty Level(PD), and search volume.
Content Ideas for your blog
It will give you the type of content written on other websites. You will also get the links to those websites to understand how the content is written for a particular keyword.
You will also come to know an estimate of visitors to the website. You will also get information about how many backlinks does the website has.
5. SEM Rush
SEM Rush is another most popular tool that is used to do keyword analysis. It is also used to do SEO analysis for any website.
It also offers a FREE and PAID version. If you already have clients and want to expand your business, I can suggest you sign-up for the paid version of SEM Rush. The search results are quick and precise.
Say, suppose here you search for the keyword “Freelance content writer.” You will get related keyword ideas and their respective search volumes. You will also get an idea of questions that are usually searched for by your viewers. You will also find variations of your keyword and their respective search volumes.
Under the Keyword Magic tool, you will get broader matching keyword ideas and their search volumes. You will also get information about the Cost Per Click(CPC), Keyword Difficulty level(KD). You will get estimated search trends for that keyword.
You will also know how many URLs are displayed for that particular keyword when organic searches are considered the only criteria.
Several other SEO features like competitor analysis, backlink audit, SERP report generation, and many more. To discuss them is beyond the scope of this blog.
